Wedding Update

We now have both a location and a date!!! We're not telling everyone where we're going to have the wedding yet .... it will be something of a surprise when we send out the "Save The Dates". But, the date will be November 8, 2009. (It's a Sunday = much cheaper!)

Also, I bought my dress!! No chance of getting me to post pictures of it here, but I love it! My Mom and I went out one day just to start looking around and we found it right away. It's exactly what I had in mind. I'm sooooooo relieved to have that detail taken care of. I hate shopping so I was actually dreading looking for a dress. (Who dreads shopping for their wedding dress?? I know, I'm weird.) I was hesitant to buy it without looking around more, but after talking to my Mom I realized that there really wasn't any reason to continue looking. We got it at David's Bridal. I know that some people think it's an evil place, but I had a better experience than I ever could have dreamed of. In fact, the lady who helped us convinced her manager to order me a BRAND NEW dress instead of taking the one off of the rack. She's awesome!!!

We don't really have any other wedding details worked out yet. We're meeting with the site coordinator on 2/26 where we'll start looking through pictures of other weddings and get some ideas. My Mom and I have been looking all over the internet and magazines to find ideas as well. We still have over 8 months until the big day so there's plenty of time to nail things down.

Nala

John and I are getting a puppy!! We're so excited.

Being sick is not fun.

I got sick a few weeks ago and ended up miserable and in bed for 4 days. It started out with me just feeling more tired than usual and had no energy. After 2 days of that, I woke up with a raging sore throat. When I looked back there in a mirror I could see that it was red and inflamed with white sores. Gross huh? It was not fun. Then, I woke up the next day feeling 100% totally awful. I was completely congested, including the horrible sinus pressure and headache that goes along with it. I had hoped that my regular allergy meds would kick in and help, but I didn't feel like they did much. I spent the next 4 days in bed. It went to the doctor the second day. His very information diagnosis was that I was "very sick". I started antibiotics but I'm not sure if they helped.

John did a pretty good job taking care of me. I'm sure he got tired of hearing my blow my nose, cough, moan about feeling awful, etc. Luckily he never caught what I had. He's got an immune system of steel!

We have privacy!

This past weekend some very hard workers built the wooden fence in the backyard!! John, his Dad, my Dad, and John's cousin Daryl worked really hard measuring, digging post holes, pouring concrete, cutting wood, screwing, and sealing to make a beautiful fence for us along the back of the property and the west wall behind the garage. It's so nice to look out the window now and not see into the neighbor's yard. I love it!! Thanks again guys for all your hard work.

3 years

As of yesterday, John and I have been together for 3 years! Can you believe it?? Time really does fly. We had a nice day. When we got home from work John opened the front door to find that the Anniversary Fairy had surprised him with a bicycle! He was very excited. He had sworn off anything with 2 wheels after breaking his arm as a kid, but he's ready to get back on now! We had reservations for dinner at Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel. It was wonderful!! The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the atmosphere relaxing. We would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone who wants to go out for a special occasion. It's definitely expensive. We were lucky in that I was able to use my reward points from my Disney Visa to pay for the dinner. So we got it all for free!! Oh, and be sure to call Disney Dining to make a reservation. The restaurant was pretty empty last night but I've heard it's sometimes hard to get a table.

The Proposal

As some of you may have heard, John and I are officially engaged. Finally!!! I'm so excited. We're planning to get married later this year in the Fall. Partly because I love the Fall and also because we don't want to rush the planning and get overly stressed out. For those of you who haven't heard the proposal story, here it is, with pictures!:

John and I both had very big years in 2008 - individually and as a couple (work milestones, lasik eye surgery, 30th birthdays, new car, buying the house, remodeling, moving in together, etc.) so John decided to finish the year off with another big event by asking me to marry him on December 31st.

We had been planning to get to Costco early that morning before it got too crowded. We ended up sleeping in a little bit so I was in the house hurrying to get ready when I realized I hadn't heard a peep out of John for awhile. I took a quick peek outside in the garage and saw him out there. I assumed he was putting away Christmas presents or something so I went back to getting dressed. Once I was about finished I went to the back door to tell John I was ready. He said ok, but come out here a minute to see what I did. At this point I was a bit suspicious. I wasn't thinking he was about to propose or anything, but I was wondering what in the heck he was doing out there!
So, I put on my shoes and went outside. He told to me to go over to the tree in the backyard. I saw this (click on the picture to enlarge it):

Now I'm TOTALLY suspicious. Why in the heck is the packaging for a CHISEL set nailed to our tree??? I'm still not thinking proposal though. The whole thing is just weird. I walked over to look at it and John tells me to look under the packaging. I pull it off and see this: Then I turn around to look at John and I see this:

John then asks me to marry him and I say of course I'll marry you! Then we hug and kiss and sniffle (John was crying and I got teary since I'm such a social cryer). I was really just happy more than anything else. Then I tell John to go into the house and get his camera so we can get pictures for the scrapbook! And that's basically how it happened. I was sooooo happy! John even "did it right" by talking to my Dad before-hand. I did a good job picking him, huh? So look forward to hearing about wedding plans and all of the other exciting events we're looking forward to in 2009. We're having big years back to back!! Events to come: We're getting a dog soon!, family vacation to Twin Lakes, Bobby and Renee's first baby, the wedding, the honeymoon, and all of the "small" things that come along in between.

P.S. We did make it to Costco, just a little later than I thought we were going to. Believe me, I didn't mind waiting!!

Is it hot enough for ya??

Jiminy Christmas it was hot this past weekend! I don’t know who invented the air conditioner, but he was a genius. It was 100 degrees at my house on Saturday. That’s ridiculous!! We did some shopping and running around this weekend but it was not fun. I absolutely hate the heat. Summer is my least favorite season by far. Except for my birthday and maybe the 4th of July, it has no redeeming qualities. I can’t wait for it to be over.

The temperature is supposed to drop down to normal (around 80ish) today. I sure hope so.

Shower mishap

So I was stepping into the shower this morning and I slipped and fell. (The cleaning lady came yesterday and I think there was some residue on the floor that made it slippery.) It was really scary! I'm ok other than some nasty bumps, bruises, and scrapes on my right leg. It made me feel kinda old though. This kind of stuff happens to old ladies - not young people!! I'm turning 30 in less than one month. It hasn't really been bothering me much, but today I feel old. Boo!!

Not again!

The Lakers lost again tonight! Dang it!! I thought all was lost in the 3rd quarter but then they started coming back so my hopes were getting up. It was not to be though. =(

I'll admit that I'm not a die-hard, watch the entire season fan, but I still want them to do well. Let's hope they do better in the next 3 games at home. I think they have it in them - they just need to get back into their groove.

Keep your fingers crossed!

John's 30th Birthday Celebrations

Well, it's finally happened. John's 30 years old. He's taking it very well. 30 is the new 20 you know!

He celebrated his birthday on 2 days. On Wednesday, his actual birthday, he opened presents from my family and had a birthday cupcake before we all headed over to BJ's in Cerritos for a happy hour celebration with family and friends. Everyone had a great time hanging out.

Then last night we had a big birthday bash for him at his aunt's house. There was quite a turn out and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. John did a lot of the pre-planning but his parents really jumped in and helped everything come together. They also put together a slideshow of John through the years. It was really fun to watch.

John said that he definitely enjoyed both days of celebration. I'm so glad! I wanted it to be special for him and something he would look back on with good memories.

Today he bought himself one final birthday treat - a Playstation 3. He's been dying to get it but I told him he had to wait until after his birthday in case he got lucky and someone bought it for him. It did not materialize Wednesday or last night so we hit up Best Buy today and now John's 30th birthday is officially complete.

(I'll post more pictures later but these are all I have for now.)

Happy June!

Can you believe it's already June 1st? This year is going by so quickly. In just a couple of days John's going to be 30 and then it's my turn next month. This is a big year for us. Between me buying the house and remodeling, the two of us moving in together, our 30th birthdays, work milestones, Bobby and Renee's wedding, my trip to Europe, and more, we're having a banner year!

Things have been so busy and stressful lately that I decided to take a break this weekend and just chill. I was totally unproductive yesterday and it felt WONDERFUL!!! I finally caught up on watching all of my television shows I haven't had time to watch - Desperate Housewives, Samantha Who?, Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, and Lost. (Thank goodness for ABC and their online episode player!) I had a headache last night from all that tv. I did get a few things done yesterday like picking up the last of my windows from Home Depot and doing some cleaning.

Today I plan to take it easy again. John and I are going to make a Target run. I love that store!! I haven't been going much lately so I need to stock up on a few things. Let's see if I can get out of there without breaking the bank. =)

I hope everyone enjoys this first day of June. June is always the month that signals to me that summer's starting. I guess it's here!!

Hi everyone!

I'm going to give this blogging thing a try. I hope I do better with this than I have with MySpace. (I logged on to my account yesterday for the first time in about 2 years!!)

I have a feeling this blog is going to be a mish-mosh of things - house updates, random thoughts, pictures, etc. I'll work on my page and get it fine tuned soon. Enjoy!
